HolnapUtán Festival: The First Day

The fifth edition of HolnapUtán Festival started with a guest play by Hungarian State Theatre Cluj, a surprise flashmob, and the hit performance by Radu Afrim, on 6 April. This year's schedule of the four-day event series is centered around debutant theatre artists.

Szigligeti Theatre Oradea's HolnapUtán Festival has a strongly theatre-based schedule this year. The fifth edition started with Homemade by the Hungarian theatre company from Cluj. The performance, presented at 5 pm on the stage of Arcadia Theatre rethinks the relationships between parents and children, and between generations in general. The play was co-created by actors, psychologists, sociologists, dramaturgists, and acting and theatrology students.

Before the first big stage play, students of the Budapest Academy of Drama and Film greeted the audience with a musical suprise flashmob, followed by the play Naive, Completely Frivolous Details in the Life and Death of the Audience. The performance directed by Radu Afrim talks about the relationship between theatre and audience, in a provocative way.

Also on 6 April, on the first day of the festival, the fourteen participant acting and directing students have started working with the texts written by local debutant authors, in order to create a performance about young people's vision about the present and future. The performance will be presented on the 9th of April, at 5 pm, in Szigligeti Studio and Moszkva Café, with free entrance. The event will be preceded by the presentation of the newest editions of Várad magazine.

On the second day, at 4 pm, students of the University of Arts Târgu Mureş will take the stage of Arcadia Theatre, whereas at 7 pm, students of the Budapest Academy of Drama and Film will present a musical show about the life and work of composers George Gershwin and Cole Porter on the big stage of the theatre. At 20 pm, the Budapest students will give a concert with their band called Pink Mojos and The Fuckfaces on the stage of Szigligeti Studio.

For the performances in HolnapUtán Festival, tickets are still available in limited numbers at the theatre's booking office, or online at www.biletmaster.ro.
