Big Stage Shows at the 6th HolnapUtán Festival

Between 20—25 March 2018, Szigligeti Theatre Oradea organizes the 6th edition of HolnapUtán Festival. During the six days of the festival, 12 companies from Transylvania and Hungary will present 14 shows, and, besides the guest performances, roundtable discussions, workshops, an exhibition opening, and several concerts will also take place.

The schedule includes seven shows on a big stage: three of these will be presented in the theatre's auditorium, two on the big stage in studio format, and two on the stage of Arcadia Theatre.

The event series will launch with the new dance theatre performance by Nagyvárad Ensemble, Nobody's Bird, on 20 March at 5 PM. The show is adapted to the stage by director Tünde Tóth, based on the exotic novella by Anna Szabó T.

The next dance theatre performance of the festival will be August, presented by the Târgu Mureş University of Arts, an adaptation of a short story by Bruno Schulz. The performance will take place on 21 March at 5 PM, directed by Zoltán Balázs, art director of Maladype Theatre Budapest. Also on the second day, Duna Ensemble presents its performance Otthon, directed by Csaba Györfi. The two dance theatre performances will take place in a studio area built on the big stage of Szigligeti Theatre.

Arcadia Theatre will host Csiky Gergely Hungarian State Theatre's Spring Awakening on 22 March at 7 PM. “In our adaptation, instead of keeping to the structure and continually respecting the rules of theatre, we chose each time to accentuate the current problem, and emphasize non-theatrical manifestations of the most instinctive kind – with the axact same eclectic rhapsody that Wedekind used when creating his work” – the show's producers have previously said.

Also in Arcadia Theatre, students of the Academy of Theatre and Film in Budapest will present their play As You Like It, adapted to the stage by MiklósVecsei H. and Attila Vidnyánszky Jr.

On 23 March, at 5 PM, Vörösmarty Theatre brings Leonce and Lena to the stage of the Labour Union Culture House. “Leonce is a prince susceptive to melancholy, and as such, the biggest do-nothing in the empire. His father thinks it's time for him to get married, and to take the heavy burden of rulership off his shoulders. But Leonce, aided by his new best friend Valerio, escapes from the destiny that was meant for him. Just like Lena does, in her wedding gown. So naturally, the two meet halfway, and, without knowing anything about each other, they fall in love. The fantasize about free will, but, unwillingly, they fulfill their own destinies. They can't help but accept that everything is the way it is supposed to be.”

On the fourth day of the festival, Tamási Áron Theatre Sf. Gheorghe takes the stage with Carlo Goldoni's comedy The Chioggia Scuffles. The story of the temperamental inhabitants of a small fishing village is transponed into the world of Italian pop hits of the 1970's.

On the last day, on 25 March at 7 PM, Katona József Theatre Budapest presents its play Nora – Christmas at the Helmers. The Ibsen adaptation by one of the most acclaimed Hungarian theatres is centered around the complicated relationships between men, women and children, power, money, and pretense. The show features well-known Hungarian actors such as Eszter Ónodi, Ernő Fekete, Tamás Keresztes, Réka Pelsőczy, and Gergely Kocsis.
